Who do we surround ourselves with on these social media sites, and what is the significance? I decided to take a deeper look at all the nodes I am connected with and the other forms of social content I choose to be exposed to day-to-day. I hoped to discover some form of a connection. I typically check Facebook once or twice a day. Why do this? It is simple really.. I want the ability to stay in touch with friends and family from my hometown, and college friends both at ECU and all over the country. Most of these friends participate and share content just over Facebook. However, other than with my current Social Media course, my only other exposure to blogging was when I followed a good friend who spent time in Peru. This makes a good point that younger social media users don’t typically stray farther than a Facebook or Twitter account. That being said, the more nodes that have access to your page will greater affect your consciousness of what you make available for them to see. For instance if an individual (no gender in specific..) has 1,700 Facebook friends, that individual may be more likely to filter out who can see pictures from their fall break. I have a number of friends who have deleted their accounts and started over only adding people they actually want to stay in touch with (thus share there personal digital life with).
